"You know that point in your life
when you realize the house you grew up in isn’t really your home anymore? All of a sudden even though you have some place where you put your shit, that idea of home is gone. You’ll see one day when you move out it just sort of happens one day and it’s gone. You feel like you can never get it back. It’s like you feel homesick for a place that doesn’t even exist. Maybe it’s like this rite of passage, you know. You won’t ever have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, it’s like a cycle or something. I don’t know, but I miss the idea of it, you know. Maybe that’s all family really is. A group of people that miss the same imaginary place.”

Home doesn't have to be family, although it certainly can be, and one of my best friends recently reminded me that home isn't really a place, it's the people, whether that's the family you were born into, one that adopted you, or one you've made for yourself. You can have more than one home. I don't live with her - far from it - but my friend is like my sister. She's family, and I have a home with her as well.

Losing the places is sad. I've felt, and still feel that same homesickness for the house that I did so much growing up in. But I have a new home, and chances are that you have one too. And the old one you can visit in your memories. Pictures and videos help.

I hope you and your baby are doing well. Good luck to both of you.
